Good afternoon. I’m coming to you today from the Golden Mastermind Seminars studios, and I want to talk about something I’ve watched play out in thousands of people over the last three decades: the laws that govern money.
I’m not talking about investing strategy. I’m talking about numismatic law, the psychology and energy behind why money flows to some people effortlessly and avoids others no matter how hard they work. Back in 1999 I produced an 8-CD audio set called Principles for Prosperity, and those CDs used to fly out the door. That was my first real body of work on this subject, and thirty years later, the pattern I described then is the same pattern I still see today.
Scarcity Consciousness Is a Cycle, Not a Circumstance
If you live in a scarcity consciousness, a lack consciousness, a poverty consciousness, you carry a lot of debt, and you keep recreating the same financial situation over and over. Not because you’re unlucky. Because you’re emotionally addicted to a set of circumstances and feelings, and that addiction produces a payoff: worry, overwhelm, and a constant low-grade fear about the future.
Most of this traces back to what you learned about money from your family. If you come from a family of noble strugglers, people who talked about how hard money was to come by, how it doesn’t grow on trees, how you were “from the wrong side of the tracks”, that conditioning becomes the operating system you run as an adult, whether you notice it or not.
When you’re in scarcity, poverty, and lack, you live in fight-or-flight. And fight-or-flight kills your ability to be creative or innovative with money. You’ll struggle to close sales because of guilt. If you don’t believe you deserve the money, you’ll unconsciously recreate situations that keep you from having it. You’ll sabotage yourself, and it’s worth saying plainly: money does not sabotage you. You sabotage it. Money isn’t conscious. It’s energy. And if you don’t understand how to direct that energy, it ends up somewhere else.
Prosperity Consciousness Changes the Flow
Contrast that with prosperity consciousness. When you operate from that place, money and opportunity move differently. If you’re a contractor, people find you, they call you, they chase you down. If you’re skilled at marketing, you have leads to spare and you close them because you’re not carrying guilt about being paid well for good work.
The shift isn’t about hustling harder. It’s about understanding your own relationship to three things: asking, deserving, and receiving.
The Mixed Money Message
Here’s where most people get stuck, and where I want to spend the rest of this: the mixed money message.
If you’re not a skilled receiver, there’s a good chance you’ve labeled yourself a “giver” instead, and you’ve confused serving with service. Free enterprise runs on a service-value proposition: you offer something valuable, and you’re compensated for it. The more you value yourself, the more people will recognize that value. If you don’t value yourself, people pass you over. It’s that simple.
When you’re a coach, a contractor, or anyone selling a service without believing you deserve to be paid well for it, you send a mixed message. Your lower self broadcasts: please buy from me, but don’t, because I’m not good enough. People feel that signal-to-noise ratio even if they can’t name it. It’s why so many salespeople spend enormous amounts of time on people who were never going to buy, because they’re too nice, or too guilty, to qualify the buyer and move on.
Think about it in plain terms. If you were selling a four-million-dollar home, you wouldn’t drive someone to see it without first confirming they qualify for the loan. That’s just common sense in real estate. But the moment you’re selling a dream, a coaching program, or a business opportunity, that same common sense disappears. People get uncomfortable asking qualifying questions because they don’t want to offend anyone, don’t want to seem pushy, don’t want someone to think they’re “just trying to sell something.” Those stories are the very thing sabotaging the sale.
The Debt Cycle Is an Epidemic
I’ve coached thousands of people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s who live in poverty consciousness, low credit, no credit, no savings, no assets, no retirement, no insurance. Flat broke, and often chronically so. This isn’t a fringe problem. It’s an epidemic that touches a huge percentage of the population, and most people in it don’t even recognize the pattern they’re repeating.
There’s a related pattern I call “underachievers”, people whose internal dialogue about money is rooted in low self-worth. They start a business, hit the first real obstacle, and quit. They find someone or something else to blame, and they move on to the next “latest and greatest” venture. I’ve watched people go bankrupt two or three times because they never addressed the cause that created the effect. It’s no different than getting sober for a short stretch with no real plan to stay that way, then relapsing. Without addressing the root cause, the same outcome repeats itself no matter how many times you start over.
Letting Go Is the Skill
The way out of this cycle isn’t a better tactic. It’s a better relationship with yourself around asking, deserving, and receiving. When you’re in reciprocity, when you’re generous, when you put money in motion instead of gripping it out of fear, when you’re not worried about money that hasn’t even happened yet, it flows to you more easily through the people, service, and value you offer.
And when you’re comfortable asking for the commitment, actually asking someone to buy, to sign up, to hire you, people respond to that certainty. The “good person” theory doesn’t hold up: people don’t buy from you because you’re a good person waiting quietly to be noticed. They buy from you because you believe in what you’re offering enough to ask for the sale.
So if any of this sounds familiar, the worry, the mixed messages, the repeating cycle, today is a good day to start practicing the skill of letting go.
Breathe. Release. Let go in a relaxed body.
